Root Canal Therapy

A gentle approach to relieve discomfort and preserve your natural teeth, carried out with care and ease.

Tooth pain can feel intrusive. Even when it is mild, it can stay at the back of your mind and make it difficult to settle.

At Yūgen Dental, Root Canal Therapy is considered when the inner part of a tooth is no longer healthy. The aim is to ease discomfort while keeping the natural tooth in place, so your mouth feels back to normal again.

What is root canal therapy?

Inside each tooth is soft tissue that helps the tooth develop and respond to sensation. When this tissue becomes infected or inflamed, it can lead to ongoing discomfort.

Root canal therapy involves gently removing the affected soft tissue from within the tooth, cleaning the internal space, and sealing it to reduce the risk of further infection. The outer structure of the tooth is preserved so it can continue to function.

Your oral health is reviewed carefully before treatment is recommended. In some cases, changes may have first been noticed during care & prevention visits, allowing the tooth to be treated before symptoms worsen.

How will you know if it is needed?

You may notice sensitivity that lingers after eating or drinking. You may feel discomfort when biting down. Sometimes there is swelling around the tooth. In other cases, changes are identified during examination before you feel discomfort.

Assessment and imaging are used to understand what is happening beneath the surface. Findings are explained in plain terms so you can decide how to proceed.

What happens during the procedure?

The area around the tooth is numbed so treatment can be carried out comfortably. The infected tissue is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned carefully.

Once the space has been sealed, the tooth is monitored as it heals. In many cases, further support is recommended to protect it. This may involve protective & supportive care, such as placing a crown to keep the tooth stable during everyday use.

What can you expect afterwards?

It is normal for the treated tooth to feel slightly different for a few days. You may notice sensitivity when biting, discomfort or a sense of pressure as the surrounding tissue settles.

This usually eases gradually. During this time, it helps to chew on the opposite side and to keep the area clean and avoid applying pressure. A follow-up visit allows the tooth to be reviewed, so you can feel confident that it is healing as expected.

Why preserve the natural tooth?

Keeping your natural tooth helps maintain balance in your bite and avoids unnecessary removal. When an infection is addressed in a timely manner, the tooth can often remain part of your smile for many years.
